Take 30 Vlog Series… What is it?
When transforming a non-habit into a new habit (not reading to reading, not moving to moving), it’s important to know that you’re not alone. That’s why I’m sharing my Moving Game transformation with you over the next 90 days.
For the last year and a half, I haven’t moved very much at all. And just like not reading shortchanges your brain health, not moving shortchanges my physical health.
Both reading and moving are critical life habits to develop, maintain, and expand, but their both very hard to start when they’re not part of your daily routine. During the Take 30 Vlog Series, I will share the highs and lows and failures and successes of my 90-day Moving Game to help you understand what to expect during the three phases of the Reading Game.
Each vlog will be in real time as I move through each day and each phase until I win the Moving Game.
Here’s to us taking 30…You to grow and me to move!
We’ve got this!
Take 30: Phase 1, Day 1
This is my first day of the Moving Game. I rambled longer in the video than I wanted, but I couldn’t help myself as I talked about Phase 1 (the toughest of the three phases) and the next 29 days. Will definitely keep the rest of the videos under five minutes. Sound good? Great!
Take 30: Phase 1, Day 2
In this video, I talk about why support matters and how important it is to believe you are worth having a competitive advantage (Play #1).
Take 30: Phase 1, Day 3
Today I talk about denial plus feeling good about meeting my walking/step goals for three days in a row and why I’m worried about days 4 – 8.
Take 30: Phase 1, Day 4
DENIAL! Today I woke up, got out of bed, and thought about all the things I wanted/needed to do. Moving wasn’t one of them…until my Fitbit coach reminded me. Here’s what happened next…
Take 30: Phase 1, Day 5 & 6
Day 5 rocked…day 6, not so much! It’s raining, and I hate the gym, and in this video, I explain why in Phase 1, that’s both a good and bad thing.
Take 30: Phase 1, Day 7
Derailment happens! What matters is getting back on track the very next day. In this video, I explain how I did it after not moving at all yesterday.
Take 30: Phase 1, Day 8
More denial! Found out from my coach, Fitbit, that my health falls in the fair range. Yeesh! I deluded myself into believing that not moving didn’t really matter. Today I talk about how denial works.
Take 30: Phase 1, Day 9
After realizing I’m only in fair shape, it was easier to get up and move on this beautiful Saturday morning. In today’s video, I explain why the mask of denial is finally starting to lift.
Take 30: Phase 1, Days 10 & 11
Celebrating my first 10 days small win (even though I derailed again on Day 10!) of moving for 8/10 days. Woohoo! I started my middle 10 days back on track. In this video, I talk about what to expect during the nine days.
Take 30: Phase 1, Day 12
Now that I know how out of shape I am, and can no longer deny that it’s okay if I don’t move, today I felt frustrated and irked. In this video, I explain why my feelings are normal and temporary.
Take 30: Phase 1, Day 13
Today I talk about how important Play 4: Walk the Talk is when you are feeling irked at this stage of Phase 1. For me, that’s when I my coach, Fitbit, tells me it’s time to move when I’m doing something I enjoy. And for you, it will be when it’s time to read.
Take 30: Phase 1, Day 14
My body now wants to move but my brain is fighting it. In this video, I explain why it’s happening and how Play #5: Prioritize and Play #7: Balance helped me make sense of it.
Take 30: Phase 1, Day 15
Instead of staying frustrated and angry about getting out of my “writing” flow, I came up with a new plan for my steps. That’s the whole point of Phase 1: figuring out what works and what doesn’t. The goal is to create a routine that is sustainable and enjoyable and this is the time to do it.
Take 30: Phase 1, Days 16, 17, & 18
In today’s video, I review Plays 1-5 & 7 and chat about derailment that’s what I did on Day 17. Good news…I got back on track and even changed my goals for the Last 10 Days.
Take 30: Phase 1, Day 19
I did it! I didn’t think I could, but I did. Watch today’s video to find out what I did and why check-in chats with your coach are super important.
Take 30: Phase 1, Day 20
“A journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step.” ~Lao Tzu.
Time to celebrate another small win! In this video, I review Plays #1-5 & 7 because it’s getting to know these plays that will make all the difference during Phase 2 (where the heavy lifting & transformation happen!).
Take 30: Phase 1, Day 21
Woohoo! Started the Last 10 Days today. But, boy, was it a rocky start. :/ I got through, and in the video, I share how I did it- one slow step at a time.
Take 30: Phase 1, Day 22
Today I talk about the power of trial and error and being aware of the emotions you will feel during Phase 1. Recognizing that the first 30 days of transforming a habit is all about trying things out to see what works while at the same time experiencing some pretty strong emotions, like anger, helps you to know it’s normal and you’re not alone.
Take 30: Phase 1, Day 23, 24, & 25
Derailed on Day 23. And found out my physical stamina and energy has vastly improved on Day 24 and 25. It feels good to be at the end of Phase 1.
Take 30: Phase 1, Days 26-30
Woohoo! Phase 1 is done, and it’s time to celebrate! In total, I derailed 5 days out of 30, and mostly because of rain. My routines are in place. I know what works and what derails me. And now I’m ready for Phase 2 and diving deep into Plays # 1-5, Mindset.
